Pax Autocratica Guide: Colony to Expedition Loop

Understand Pax Autocratica's verified colony, expedition, capture, Core, and Prison loop, with practical planning boundaries for the Early Access build.

Pax Autocratica is built around one connected colony-to-expedition loop: run a functioning colony, prepare the Leader and soldiers, enter an expedition, then bring its resources, Cores, and captives back into colony progression.

Understand the complete progression loop

The official description combines a science-fiction colony simulator with first-person roguelite combat. The two halves are not separate campaigns. Colony work supplies an expedition, while the results of that expedition create new choices at the colony.

The verified loop is:

  • operate resource gathering and transport;
  • research and manufacture equipment, food, and supplies;
  • prepare soldiers for an expedition;
  • fight alongside the squad as the Leader;
  • weaken and capture enemies when that serves the run;
  • return with resources and Cores; and
  • process captives through the Prison while strengthening the colony for the next expedition.

This is the safest framework for deciding what to do next. If an expedition is poorly supplied, inspect the colony. If colony progression feels stalled, review what the last expedition returned and whether its rewards have been folded back into production, personnel, or preparation.

Make the colony support the next expedition

Colony readiness is more than having a resource visible somewhere. The official material identifies gathering, hauling, research, manufacturing, food, and personnel as connected responsibilities. A finished item can still be unavailable where it is needed if transport or usable stock is broken.

Treat each important supply as a chain. Identify where its raw material originates, where it is processed, who moves it, and where the finished stock becomes useful. The automatic restocking guide explains the official Order, Stock, and Auto production modes. The Resource Transport Station guide covers the separate hauling layer.

Before changing several jobs or buildings together, observe one chain from input to destination. That diagnostic method is player guidance rather than an official optimal workflow, but it preserves cause and effect: when the chain stops, the point of failure is easier to see.

Food deserves the same chain-based inspection. Production is only part of hunger prevention; transport and access through the Food Hall or consumable stock also matter. Use the soldier hunger and food guide when food exists but soldiers remain hungry.

Prepare an expedition without emptying the colony

An expedition removes chosen soldiers from colony jobs while they accompany the Leader. The practical consequence is that squad selection also changes the workforce left behind. Before leaving, check whether essential gathering, cooking, and transport responsibilities remain staffed.

Equipment planning has two different subjects. Crafted personal equipment belongs to the Leader in the documented build, while ordinary soldiers derive weapons and abilities primarily from their role or character cards. The soldier gear guide explains this boundary without inventing an individual equipment screen.

Use the expedition as part of an ongoing loop, not as a requirement to exhaust every possible encounter. The research supports a cautious first-run approach: understand the squad, preserve a safe return, and learn how colony staffing changes while the group is away. It does not provide a universal squad size, route, or loadout, so none is claimed here.

Connect capture, Cores, and the Prison

Official material places capture inside combat: enemies can be weakened and captured rather than simply defeated. Captives return to the Prison, where the game presents handling choices that include interrogation, punishment, execution, or conversion. These systems turn an expedition outcome into a colony-management decision.

Cores also belong to the return side of the loop. The supplied official research confirms that Cores are part of the current Early Access progression, but this page deliberately does not claim hidden effects, drop rates, or universally best combinations. Those details are build-sensitive and require dedicated current-version evidence.

At the colony, review expedition results before launching another chain of construction. Ask what entered storage, what the new Core options change in the current interface, and whether a captive decision would add pressure to food, housing, wages, or work. The last question is a planning prompt, not an official formula.

Keep colony systems readable as you expand

There is no official permanent best layout. A useful layout makes the production flow inspectable: resource origin, transport connection, Warehouse, processor, and consumer should be understandable at a glance. Exact spacing and geometry remain player-tested because terrain, population, research, and patches can change the answer.

The colony layout guide separates official building relationships from community layout heuristics. It also explains why testing one transport chain at a time is more defensible than copying a rigid blueprint.

Personnel settings can change the management burden as well. The official Soldier Aging toggle can be changed at any time and takes effect immediately; the aging toggle guide covers On, Off, and the documented Aged penalties without inventing an aging schedule.

Apply an Early Access evidence rule

Pax Autocratica is in Early Access, and the official update stream continues to change colony tools, missions, Cores, Prison interactions, and interface presentation. Separate durable system boundaries from build-sensitive details:

  • trust official descriptions for what a named system is intended to do;
  • treat community layouts and routines as testable suggestions;
  • verify current menus before following an old click path; and
  • do not convert an absent rate, timer, capacity, or formula into a guess.

This guide intentionally omits exact production rates, transport capacity, aging time, soldier consumption, best layouts, and Core rankings because the supplied evidence does not establish them for a permanent build.
